How to Specify a Folder for Windows 8 Photo app/viewer

Adding a specific folder to Windows 8 Metro Photos app(photo viewer) can be done via File Explorer.

On your Windows 8 start screen ( Metro UI ), click on 'Desktop' tile.

Now in 'Desktop' view, click on 'File Explorer' at the taskbar.

Look at the left pane in 'File Explorer'.

1. Goto 'Libraries' > 'Pictures'. Make sure 'Pictures' is clicked ( highlighted ).

2. At Library Tools, make sure Manage tab is selected.

3. Click on 'Manage library' button.

In the 'Pictures Library Locations' window, click on the 'Add' button.

Then browse and choose any folder that you want to add or customize. All subfolders will be scanned automatically, so you don't need to add them one at a time.

When you're done adding all the specific folders, press OK.

On a side note, those folders that you have added to the Pictures library are just reference points ( think bookmark) to the actual folders on your hard drive. If you are familiar with Picasa ( image viewer by Google ), it works the same way as Windows pictures library. But you can still delete photos while browsing with the Windows 8 Photos app.
